London Marathon: OW Guinness World Record attempt
| Ben Harrop (OW 91-98) is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for running a marathon with 60lbs weight. He will be wearing army trousers, boots and with a military backpack with the required weight in it - sadly he will not be able to carry his rifle during this event!! He will be running in the London Marathon on 25th April 2010. The current record is 6h 28m 23s, (he is aiming for sub 5hr 30 mins) and will be getting Guinness World Records to authenticate his attempt. Ben is an Officer in the Parachute Regiment and as a former Machine Gun Platoon Commander in 3 PARA he is quite used to covering large distances with heavy weight. He is currently employed as Adjutant at the Army Training Regiment in Bassingbourn. Ben is running for The Royal Star and Garter homes which provide nursing & therapeutic care for ex-service men and women of any age - a very apt charity given his profession and the fact his Granddad resides in a care home. Ben has set up a website to raise money towards this charity and asked for our support. If you wish to donate please go to www.justgiving.com/BenjaminHarrop Ben is hoping to raise £2,300. Message from Ben: "Please do give generously to a great cause and cheer me on during the marathon! See you at the finish line!" Good Luck Ben! |
